Maybe that's why drama and controversy thrives in this world we live in, whether in real-life, reality shows, work-life, family gatherings, etc. So is boring a good thing? In this particular situation I think so haha :)
No drama or controversy at my end but perhaps a little too much rambling :P
The picture above?
Taken at one of my more adventurous yet low-key Saturdays. Low-key Mainly due to the temperamental weather, gloomy on weekends but happy sunshiney bright on workdays when you're cooped up in Office Space. Oh yeah, I should tell some stories about my work life... in time.
Ok, enough talk about the weather! I'm sure you've heard enough of it already :)
Wellington has Cable Cars.
Yes, they do. I found out on the first day I arrived here, but I only found the chance to visit it last weekend. Headed there with one of my colleagues Shane. It was only a short walk away from CBD (Central Business District - a term they use to refer to the city center, I think).
Wide-eyed wanderer (Ohkay, that's the widest I could muster)
View from the outside (kinda looks like a subway ride at first)
Passing another cable car from the opposite direction (insert corny comment here)
You may or may not have noticed a reflection of my temporary travel buddy Shane. He will remain mysterious.
The cable cars share the same track except for the middle where it splits to a two-laner. Logical enough. The rides are every 10 minutes from either direction so there's minimal wait time. The ride was relatively quick and certainly not as exciting as the one in Genting (that ride actually hangs on cables instead of moving on a railway). Well, I guess they call it a cable car because of the equipment they use on the pulley effect.
Pulley effect WAA? Nevermind, you'll find out what I'm talking bout below.
View on the way up. 'twas a gloomy...nevermind.
It was a direct uphill ride that lasted about 10 mins, 5 bucks for a return fare. First thing we did upon alighting was to visit:
Museum built with the assistance of the museum experts from everywhere including San Francisco (I've done the cable car rides there - fun!). Nothing too exciting here, well-maintained though. So to amuse myself, I went around snapping more photos:
Those are the outside seats for the previous cable car that was made redundant (and into a museum prop). I try to think that the slanting seats make sense. Why don't they make foot-high borders instead? Oh wait, that would discourage the passengerment of lovey-dovey couples and horizontally-challenged folks. My bad. Oh wait, passengerment isn't a word. My bad.
Moving on, here's the explanation of the whole pulley system they've got going on.
Another laid-off cable car on display.
At that point of time, my thirst for adventure hasn't quite been fulfilled, so we headed off for a trek at the Botanical Gardens. It was a short trek as I figured I'd save the exploring for another day.
I like paths to the unknown
Big green bushy something that I found interesting enough to take a picture of
View of the harbour from a lookout point at the botanical gardens
A serene view of Wellington city. Little did I know at the time that I was staring at my next adventure destination.
That was how a Saturday at Wellington played out for me. More to come (from this weekend alone!)
