Tangi Te Keo

Kia Ora folks,

If you're looking for great views of Wellington city, this post features my best (and first-time) takes of the windy township and everything around it.

We must first of all address that triangularish shiny prism-like unidentified immobile object.

I knew what it was a few weeks back when I visited it, but I porgot (Mom: aiyo! Leon must eat more fish or gingko for your memory!). Anyway, I believe it's some commemorative ...thingy.

Turning to the opposite direction, I sighted the highest point of Mount Victoria; therefore being the location I needed to be for the best panoramic view and photo-taking opportunity.

City view part 1: Queen's Wharf (to the right) and the City Harbour

Thanks to my camera's 7x zoom function, I was able to pick out my apartment - center of the picture :)

City view part 2: therein lies the Town Belt between Wellington city and myself atop Mount Victoria. The town belt is meant to keep the green lung of the city protected. One-up moment here!

Written on one of the description boards at the lookout point:
'Today's Town Belt will ensure Wellingtonians grow up with the sound of birds and cicada, the calm respite of forest, and free access to "million dollar" views.'

Mother nature has a lot of competition from blaring honks and construction sites, but the "million dollar" views are a guarantee :)

City view part 3: Harbour close-up

Wellington Intl Airport and the nearby town called Miramar.

Zoned out for a bit by just watching planes fly in the late afternoon.

Once I got that out of the way, I was ready for more trekking but was discouraged by some dark clouds shadowing the hills across Evans Bay.

So I bade farewell (I did attempt to find Alexandra Road which was known for its LOTR film sites, but I gave that up when the rain arrived).

That's pretty much it for now. If you'd like to know more about the Maori legend behind the impressive surroundings, just click on the picture of the description board below (should be quite clear for your reading)

"Get off the road!" says Frodo.

Off the road I go, back to the city...
