The business of buskers

Wellington has quite a numb3r of street performers plying their trade around the city, mainly at Cuba Street.

I frequent this street almost every day. I've used the word "almost" because it has become one of the two paths that I take for my daily commute to and from work - a <1km walk. The example itinerary is as follows:

Home -> Bargain Rental Car junction -> Start of Cuba Street: Wellington Fish Market -> Peaches Sex Shop -> Traffic light crossing -> Floriditas -> Amcal Pharmacy Construction -> Bucket Fountain (the one that Mr. Frodo peed in) -> Another traffic crossing and the end of Cuba Street -> Mr Bun Bakery -> Work

Back to the topic of buskers. Most of them are musicians with guitars and with a guitar bag laid down to gather either monetary goodwill or pennies of appreciation for a decent performance. According to a colleague of mine, these buskers are required to register to the Welly City Council to do their thang.

Now that I've got that half-fact out of the way, here are some pictures of my favourite street performer:

This drummer has a pretty cool new-age type UFO-shaped drumming instrument (I'm reluctant to even call it a drum).

Wanna know how it sounds like? Play the video.

ciao!

  2. Buskers are actually not much of a musician because they are not 'noteworthy'....
