No. 43 part 2: Peppertree

Where was I?

Oh yeah, Paihia. I had just arrived and was greeted by these whatchamacalit structures or statues or carvings. For a while I thought this was the famed Waitangi Treaty Grounds, but that was further down on the same road.

A stroke of tough luck saw me facing gloomy weather & thus the prospect of not being able to get No.43 crossed off my list. Well, it was after all the winter season, the kind of weather that makes the skin on your face taut.

The first thing I did after having myself greeted by the Maori wood carvings was to start finding my temporary abode. I already had the Peppertree lodge in mind but I eagerly drove around to explore other backpacker hostels.

In the end though, I settled for Plan A.

21 dollahs a night for an 8-person dormitory room. The hostel owner, Bryan told me that there was only one other guy in one of the available rooms, so I figured that there'll be enuff personal space to go around. Dumped my bags and went in search for food, before heading back for R&R - really couldn't do much with the skies spouting silly at 'cha.

Last look at the rocky seas before nightfall.

By the time I made it back to my room at 10pm, it was packed with ladies coming from a roadtrip up north Cape Reinga. Never stayed in the co-ed before but I guess it was just business as usual for me, minus the clothes-changing in the room. Most of the girls in the room were pretty stoned from the marijuana they been puffin, so I established a brief friendship with one that wasn't, a Londoner named Cerian.

Now that's just Day 1 :)
